A team that disagrees for good reasons

Sales proposes opening on Saturdays, operations warns about staffing and finance doubts the margins. Each position may be reasonable under different assumptions. “Please summarize and find a compromise” risks producing agreement in prose without operational feasibility. Instead, ask what each group is trying to protect, what evidence is available and which unknowns prevent a defensible decision.

Decision memo

1. Decision to be taken, deadline and authorized owner.
2. Facts and traceable sources.
3. Assumptions behind each position.
4. Internal tensions and conditions under which objectives are compatible.
5. Scenarios: status quo, limited pilot, full expansion.
6. Cost, customer impact, adverse outcomes and reversal criteria.
7. Evidence collection assignments and follow-up date.

Organize these anonymized arguments from a management meeting. Do not choose a winner or infer private motivations. Distinguish genuine agreement, unresolved value conflicts and factual questions. Present alternatives with evidence needs, owners and conditions for revising the decision.

2026 comparative laboratory

Provide the same fictional Saturday-opening case to two independent AI conversations or different models. If both agree, do not call that proof: examine whether they shared unverified assumptions. Compare demand, marginal cost, staffing and customer behavior. Verify what changed and what remains unknown.

Deliverable: an accountable meeting memo and a conditional recommendation, not an AI-generated authorization. Institutional powers and legal obligations remain with human decision-makers.
