6.3 · Applied Final Project: From a Fluent Answer to a Defensible Decision

Goal: integrate conceptual criticism, model interaction, evidence and accountable decisions.

Choose your case

Everyday path: a nonsensitive personal choice, such as comparing purchase options, organizing study or changing a routine. Business path: a fictional or appropriately authorized process, such as reducing complaints, testing a new product presentation or improving service times. Begin with an AI-generated output that is already competent: a polished business report, a plausible comparison or a working-looking app.

Your evidence file

  1. Problem: question, context, eligible cases, constraints and success criterion.
  2. Original proposal: preserve the unedited AI response or generated artifact.
  3. Criticism: identify at least one material internal tension with an explicit mechanism; do not force two if only one is defensible.
  4. Reformulation: state what valuable elements remain and what must change.
  5. Evidence: sources, missing data, tests and outcomes.
  6. Decision: alternative chosen or reason for withholding a decision, responsible person and follow-up.
  7. Self-critique: explain under what conditions your preferred solution could fail.

Integrative instruction

Work in stages; do not solve everything in one response. Start by examining my problem definition. Then identify justified internal tensions, help me reformulate while keeping defensible aims, and finally design independent validation. Label assumptions, cite sources when actually consulted and ask for my review before moving to the next stage.

Evaluation guidance

Suggested self-assessment: problem definition 20%, quality of criticism 20%, reformulation 20%, verification 25%, and traceability 15%. These are instructional criteria, not an automatic Aula Clara grading formula.

Why this project is harder in 2026

The model may already produce the finished report, working code and neat charts. Your contribution is to discover whether the report is warranted, whether the software implements the intended model, and what decision can safely be made. Document which model features were available, which actions were actually performed, and where a result was merely described rather than computed.

Closing thought: dialogue does not guarantee truth. Its value lies in forcing us to articulate why a belief is plausible, what may undermine it, and what we would do if it fails. The following final lesson turns that criticism against our own philosophical framework.
